Dave was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York and lived there till going away to college in Vermont. While majoring in Business, he decided to join the school paper as photographer. A few days later Dave was able to view his first published photos in the newspaper and was hooked on photography.
Since then his work has focused mainly on portraiture and photojournalism. For 10 years, Dave owned and operated a portrait studio in New York. During that time he combined his love of photography and music by photographing musicians various newspapers and magazines. Since moving to Chicago in 1991 he's concentrated primarily on portraits although he's kept up some concert work for WXRT.
Dave has continued to use his photojournalism skills in all his portraiture work. "I love to capture that perfect moment. My aim is to work unobtrusively and avoid shooting the usual stiff posed pictures. I rely on fast lenses that allow me to shoot with available light whenever possible. I find that natural light adds so much more to the final image than anything you can get in a studio"
